Wogan has also had an extensive career in radio, forming part of the original line-up of Radio 1 DJs in 1967 and presenting Radio 2's breakfast show for 16 years. He discusses his upbringing in Ireland, how the occasionally ramshackle nature of early Irish television helped him learn to cope with the challenges of broadcasting live, and why his approach to the job has helped sustain his career for more than 50 years.

Helen Czerski investigates the science behind familiar sounds as well as those humans cannot hear. At the Palace of Westminster, she teams up with scientists to carry out measurements using state-of-the-art lasers to reveal how Big Ben vibrates to create pressure waves in the air at particular frequencies. She also explores the science of the voice, inviting soprano Lesley Garrett to sing I Dreamed A Dream inside an MRI scanner to reveal how her vocal tract acts as a resonator, amplifying and shaping the sound from her larynx.
